Job description

Summary

  • This position performs diagnostic ultrasound imaging including a variety of procedures (invasive and non-invasive) ranging from a variety of biopsies, routine OB/GYN, limited vascular, abdomen, small body parts to intra-cavity and color Doppler.Technologist must have strong critical thinking, interpersonal skills and ability to problem-solve whileassuming responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of patients while they are in the technologist's care.
  • Stronginterpersonal and communication skills are necessary to deal effectively with and instruct patients who may be under physical/emotional stress; ability to comprehend and follow physicians verbal orders and follow imaging protocols.
  • Technologist will also need to be able to work productively and effectively within a complex environment of inpatient, emergency department and outpatient circumstances by being able to multitask with changing priorities.
  • The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for obtaining information such as patient identity, history, reviewing medical records for appropriateness of the exam or procedure and documentation accuracy.
  • Technologist must maintain a high standard of medical ethics be self-motivated to pursue lifelong learning to increase level of understanding and knowledge of the field, disease, and new procedures as they evolve.
  • Provides excellent customer service.

Responsibilities

  • (60%)*Produces quality images by selecting the appropriate technical factors, equipment and transducer settings.
  • Verifies patient orders and reviews appropriateness for exam, obtains patient history, explains standard procedures, and addresses patient concerns to foster a sense of comfort and confidence to ensure the needs of individual patients are met.
  • Determine if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes while using independent judgment during the sonographic exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings. (20%)*The Technologist is responsible for the independent operation of sonographic equipment, performing and communicating findings of diagnostic examinations, responsible for daily operations of the department, patient schedule, equipment maintenance, the report of equipment failures, and quality assessment (QA).
  • Maintains a clean work environment and adequate supplies. (20%)*Responsible for appropriate sterilization techniques along with documentation accuracy of logs, charts, forms, and records in paper and electronic formats.

    • Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death. � Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position. � Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description. � Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s). � Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time.
    • May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching. � Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material.
