The prescriber will support patients with various psychiatric conditions, conduct assessments, prescribe medications, and provide crisis management. They will also collaborate with other healthcare professionals and train staff in treatment approaches.
Candidates must be a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner, board eligible or certified, and hold an unrestricted license to practice in Iowa. They should also be eligible to work in the United States.
Support patients with a variety of psychiatric conditions - ex. anxiety/depression, substance use disorder, addiction treatment etc. Conduct psychiatric assessments including psychiatric history, course of illness, response to treatment, mental status examination, and DSM V diagnosis an present assessment results. Collaborate with registered nurse in assessment of client physical health, making appropriate referrals to community physicians for further assessment and treatment, and coordinating medical treatments with substance use treatment. Prescribe medications and conduct regular assessment of therapeutic response, side effects and education of clients regarding medications. With other team members, provide support, education, and counseling to help clients, staff, and concerned others become knowledgeable about substance use disorder and addictions. Provide on-site crisis assessment and management of patients during regular work hours. Submit written reports and oral testimony and presentation of opinion in commitment and other legal proceedings in a wide range of treatment, rehabilitative, and support services matters (ie Social Security applications, prior authorizations of medication, etc.) Train staff in the knowledge and skills basic to the treatment for persons with severe and persistent mental illness. Collaborate with registered nurses to develop, revise, maintain, and supervise team psychopharmacologic and medical treatment and medication policies and procedure. Prior experience or willingness to train in Substance Use Disorders/Medication Assisted Treatment
