About the job

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides general nursing care to patients by assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care according to the needs of the patient. This role coordinates and manages patient care through active communication, interaction, and collaboration of patient, family, physicians, health care team and other support services. The RN is responsible for the quality of patient care and nursing practice according to patient care standards within the patient care area and for assuming charge nurse responsibilities when assigned. This position will work approximately 20 hours per week with every 3rd weekend rotation.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses the physical and psychosocial health care needs of patients/family utilizing nursing assessment tools and available resources (i.e. EMR).
  • Develops, implements, and documents an individualized care plan using medical and nursing diagnosis, nursing assessment data and current nursing and therapeutic measures.
  • Identifies immediate and long term implications of alternative choices and nursing activities including, but not limited to, positioning, use of equipment, aseptic technique, and use of personal protective equipment.
  • Revises the nursing care plan to reflect the changing needs of the patient.
  • Collaborates with other departments to implement the comprehensive individual patient care plan.
  • Uses models of patient care standards, physician preferences, hospital policy and procedures, Minnesota Department of Health guidelines, Board of Nursing, CDC, and OSHA standards.
  • Demonstrates consistent ability to manage nursing essential duties, emergency situations, and initiates life saving measures in the absence of a physician, within the RN scope of practice.
  • Participates in nursing staff meetings and nursing activities demonstrating involvement and participation in work related groups.
  • About you
  • Graduate of an accredited school or nursing with an associate's degree in professional nursing (required)
  • Current RN licensure in good standing in the State of Minnesota (required)
  • Basic Life Support certification (or able to obtain within 6 months of employment)
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification (or able to obtain within 6 months of employment)
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course certification (or able to obtain within 1 year of employment)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification (preferred)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification (preferred)
  • Basic EKS Monitoring (preferred)

Requirements

Candidates must have an associate's degree in professional nursing and a current RN license in the State of Minnesota. BLS and ACLS certifications are required or must be obtained within six months of employment.
