About the role

The Nuclear Med Tech is responsible for preparing and administering radiopharmaceuticals, starting patient IVs, explaining procedures, and positioning patients for various Nuclear Medicine studies like Stress Tests and Bone Scans. Duties also include calculating radiation dosages, performing computer processing, and providing data analysis to physicians for diagnostic interpretation.

Responsibilities

Nuclear Med Tech Job Summary Patient Care

Prepare and administer radiopharmaceuticals orally, by injection, or inhalation. Start patient IVs. Explain imaging procedures to patients, answer their questions, and ensure their comfort. Position patients appropriately for scanning.

Technical

Duties: Conduct NM studies such as Nuclear Stress Tests, Bone Scans, HIDA Scans, Lung Scans, Thyroid Scans, Liver Scans, and Brain Scans. Prepare facilities according to procedural requirements and calibrate equipment as needed. Calculate, measure, and record radiation dosage or radiopharmaceuticals used, received, and disposed of, using computer systems and following physician's prescriptions. Perform computer processing and imaging enhancement. Provide images, data analysis, and patient information to the physician for diagnostic interpretation.

Quality

Control: Monitor the department's daily, monthly, and quarterly quality control (QC) under the guidelines of the NRC. Ensure compliance with departmental protocols and safety standards.

Qualifications

Nuclear Med Tech Qualifications Education and Certification

Must be registered in Nuclear Medicine through NMTCB or ARRT. Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification required.

Experience

Training and experience in conducting various NM studies, including Nuclear Stress Tests, Bone Scans, HIDA Scans, Lung Scans, Thyroid Scans, Liver Scans, and Brain Scans.

Skills

Strong technical skills in preparing and administering radiopharmaceuticals and operating NM equipment. Excellent patient care skills, including the ability to explain procedures and ensure patient comfort. Proficiency in computer processing and imaging enhancement. Ability to monitor and maintain quality control standards. Exceptional customer service, communication, and teamwork skills.

Requirements

Candidates must be registered in Nuclear Medicine through NMTCB or ARRT and possess current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification. Required experience includes training in conducting various NM studies, strong technical skills in radiopharmaceutical handling and equipment operation, and excellent patient care and communication abilities.
