How you’ll contribute A Medical Technologist who excels in this role performs moderate and high‑complexity diagnostic laboratory testing on patient specimens to assist providers in the diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing monitoring of disease.
Additional duties include: Validates, interprets, and reports laboratory results, recognizing discrepancies, critical values, or unusual patterns. Prioritizes and organizes workload to ensure timely result reporting across assigned bench areas. Performs and evaluates daily quality control; documents corrective actions and follows established QC protocols. Participates in proficiency testing, competency assessments, and regulatory inspections. Adheres to all federal, state, and accreditation standards, including but not limited to CLIA, CAP, OSHA, and The Joint Commission. Operates, calibrates, and maintains laboratory analyzers and equipment. Recognizes equipment failures and promptly notifies leadership or vendor support as appropriate. Troubleshoots mechanical, reagent, or analytical issues; documents findings and corrective actions. Ensures proper patient identification, specimen labeling, and processing procedures. Evaluates specimen acceptability and initiates recollection when criteria are not met. Maintains chain‑of‑custody, storage requirements, and handling procedures for all specimen types. Accurately enters, verifies, and releases results in the Laboratory Information System (LIS). Completes and maintains required records, logs, and documentation in accordance with regulatory standards. Utilizes multiple software systems and electronic tools to support laboratory operations. Communicates effectively and provides good customer service to providers, nurses, and clinical staff regarding results, specimen requirements, and testing limitations. Provides technical direction, guidance, and training to new employees, students, or support personnel as assigned. Follows all safety protocols, PPE requirements, and infection‑prevention standards. Handles hazardous materials, bloodborne pathogens, and biohazardous waste according to policy. Maintains a clean, safe, and organized work environment; promptly reports safety concerns or exposures. License/Certification: Medical Technologist licensure through ASCP or AMT preferred.
