The technologist ensures that all slides, stains, and blocks are appropriate and acceptable, performing various staining techniques including immuno-staining. Responsibilities also include performing tissue embedding, preparing slides, and maintaining proper labeling and filing systems for case retrieval.
Under the general supervision and direction of the Manager, Pathology or designee, ensure that all slides, stains and blocks are appropriate and acceptable. Answer questions about quality of stains as needed. Perform all types of staining including immuno. Re-cut blocks as needed. Perform embedding technique in paraffin ensuring proper orientation of tissue sample, documents and accounts for each case. Select embedded tissue and prepare slides for routine and special techniques. Stain, cover, discard and replace solutions. Label slides for temporary and permanent records and file according to accession numbers in case retrieval is required.
Courses and training related to processing histology specimens required. Two years of experience as a Histology Technician required including tissue processing, special stains and frozen sections. Must be fully vaccinated against seasonal Influenza and the COVID 19 virus or to be exempt from the requirement for medical or personal reasons by signing a statement certifying you are choosing to be exempt from vaccination once hired Compensation: Pay rate will be determined based on level of experience. Pay Range USD $34.18 - USD $44.10 /Hr.
