About the role

The Certified Medical Assistant is responsible for delivering patient care under the direction of a healthcare provider, which includes accurately performing preliminary physical tests like measuring vital signs and preparing patients. Duties also involve administering ordered medications, collecting blood samples, performing routine tests like EKGs, and maintaining clean, stocked exam rooms.

Here’s What You Need Education · H.S.

Diploma or Equivalent (Required) Experience · 1 year of Medical Assistant experience (Preferred) Licenses and Certifications · CMA - Certified Medical Assistant (Required) And · ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support (Preferred) Or · BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support (Preferred) What You Will Do Under the direction of the health care provider, is responsible for the delivery of patient care that promotes the safety and well being of all patients.

Accurately performs preliminary physical tests such as: measuring blood pressure, recording weight, temperature, pulse and respiration and other measures as directed by established clinical protocols. · Perform general patient care by following established standards and procedures. · Greet and prepare patients for the health care provider. · Obtain and record vital signs including, but not limited to: blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, height, weight, drug allergies, and current medications and presenting problem. · Administer ordered medications and/or vaccines via oral, injection, topical, rectal, ophthalmic, and/or inhalant administration. · May be required to draw and collect blood samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis as well as perform routine tests such as EKG's. · Schedule patients for diagnostic testing and follow up to ensure completion of testing. · Document patient plan(s) of care, tests and examination results in the medical record as directed by the provider. · Communicate with patient regarding test results and plan of care by phone or mail as directed by the provider. · Prepare, clean and sterilize instruments and maintain equipment, disposing of contaminated items according to protocol.

Keep patient exam rooms stocked, clean and orderly. · Escalate non-routine issues, questions and/or concerns to the practice manager or healthcare provider(s). · Ensure safety checklists/quality controls are completed as required. · Provide for patient safety and protection of patient privacy rights. · May work in the front office as needed, as well as perform other duties as assigned by practice manager, more senior staff, or as requested by healthcare provider(s).

Requirements

A High School Diploma or Equivalent is required, along with one year of preferred Medical Assistant experience. Mandatory certification includes being a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), with Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) being preferred.
