The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) functions as a non-licensed team member under the direction of a Registered Nurse, providing direct care to designated patients. Duties include assisting with activities of daily living, mobility support, continuous observation including suicide prevention, and maintaining a clean patient environment.
Candidates must possess current Basic Life Support certification through the AHA or attain it upon completion of the PCA education program, along with knowledge appropriate for the age of patients served and current patient care standards. Essential requirements include strong interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to handle high stress and frequent interruptions, and physical capability for demanding, repetitive movements.
