The Direct Support Professional (DSP) will ensure the delivery of evening respite services and provide support in personal care, communications, and mobility. They will also facilitate socialization and companionship while promoting health and wellness.
Candidates must be at least 18 years old with a valid driver's license and six months of driving experience. Previous experience as a Personal Care Aide, Caregiver, or similar role is required, along with the ability to communicate effectively in English.
Here’s what to expect as a Respite, Direct Support Professional (DSP): Ensure the delivery of evening respite services for each individual. Provide support in personal care, communications, and mobility as identified in the support plan. Provide companionship and socialization. Acquire and apply knowledge about the range of effective communication strategies and skills necessary to establish a collaborative relationship with the individual. Effectively communicate with the individual using information derived from the individuals' preferences, needs, and interests. Facilitate what is important to the person by continuously listening and learning in alliance with the person, their family, and friends. Modify support programs and interventions to ensure they are person centered. Promote the health and wellness of people receiving support. Observe and implement appropriate actions to promote healthy living and to prevent illness and accidents. Assist individuals in completing personal care (i.e., hygiene and grooming) activities. Assist using needed adaptive equipment (i.e., adaptive equipment).
Minimum requirements as a Respite, Direct Support Professional (DSP): A valid driver’s license and 6 months driving experience 18 years of age Previous Personal Care Aide, Caregiver, Direct Support Professional, or Direct Care Worker experience Access to a vehicle with valid insurance, registration, and inspection Ability to communicate, read, write, and understand the English language Preferred, but not required: Knowledge of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and/or autism A High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) certificate If you are still reading, we should talk!
