DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION · Respond to general patient inquiries regarding treatment and clinic policies and procedures. · Prepare patients for the health care visit by accompanying them to the examining room; providing examination gowns and drapes; positioning patients for examination and/or treatment; arranging examining room instruments, supplies, and equipment. · Verify patient information by interviewing patient; reviewing and/or recording medical history; taking vital signs; confirming purpose of visit or treatment. · Support care delivery by helping health care providers during examinations; preparing laboratory specimens; performing basic laboratory tests on the premises; disposing of contaminated supplies; sterilizing medical instruments; administering medications on the premises; authorizing drug refills as directed; telephoning prescriptions to pharmacies; drawing blood; preparing patients for x-rays; taking electrocardiograms; removing sutures; changing dressings. · Educate patients by providing medication and diet information and instructions; answering questions; complete records by recording patient examination, treatment, and test results. · Maintain stock levels and order clinic supplies; keep equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs. · Consistently communicate in a professional and courteous manner; Provide in-service training and precepting as directed. · May complete unit/department specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents.

Required qualifications

Medical assistant

  • · Graduation from a medical assistant education program or two (2) years of medical assistant experience. · Applicant must possess Medical Assistant certification (listed below) within of 6 months of hire as a condition of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

· Additional formal education in a health care field is preferred. · Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met with or without reasonable accommodation. The performance of these physical demands is an essential function of the job. This position is very active and requires ambulating, reaching, and moving objects weighing up to and over 20 lbs. This role also routinely comes into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. This position is in a health care facility open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Rotating shifts as well as holiday and work during inclement weather will be required.
