Responsibilities include conducting psychiatric assessments using DSM IV TR, offering individual counseling and crisis intervention, and building strong therapeutic rapport. The role also involves identifying hospital and community resources, making referrals, and advocating for patient needs. Social workers provide psychoeducation to patients and families to strengthen coping and problem-solving skills, while also addressing issues such as abuse/neglect, chemical dependency, grief, and discharge planning. Additional duties include maintaining professional development through continuing education, contributing to performance improvement by evaluating patient outcomes and departmental success, and performing other assigned tasks.
