The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for performing respiratory therapy procedures and diagnostic tests under the guidance of a physician. They also educate patients and families about respiratory therapy and ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
Candidates must be graduates of an AMA approved Respiratory Therapy program and licensed as a Respiratory Therapist in Kansas. BLS certification is required, and ACLS and NRP certifications are strongly encouraged for those taking acute floor shifts.
Respiratory Therapist (CRT, RRT) Mission of Department: To provide quality patient care and improve quality of life. Purpose of Position: Perform procedures within the scope and conduct of patient care for the Respiratory Care Department under the guidance of a designated staff physician. Essential Functions: Provide respiratory therapy as outlined in the Respiratory Care Department Policy and Procedures. Setup, operate, and maintain respiratory therapy equipment Take call and standby when needed Educate patients and family regarding respiratory therapy. Additional Responsibilities: Associate must be familiar with the relevant laws and regulations concerning participation in federal health care programs. Associate is responsible for ensuring all departmental activities, especially those activities relating to the claim development and submission process and relationships with other health care providers, are conducted in full compliance with federal and state laws and regulations. To fulfill these job responsibilities, Associate is expected to do the following: Participate in educational programs concerning legal compliance issues. Seek advice and guidance from the appropriate member of management concerning any legal compliance questions. Report any suspected incident of noncompliance utilizing one of the reporting mechanisms available for such purposes. Cooperate fully with any investigation relating to any suspected incident of noncompliance Patient Safety: Scott County Hospital provides an environment which encourages error identification and prevention. Associate is responsible for: 1) ensuring patient safety 2) will report suspected and identified medical/health care errors 3) recognition and reporting of unsafe practices indentified in the care of patients, and 4) will educate patient and their family regarding a safe environment. Education, Qualifications, Experience: Graduate of AMA approved Respiratory Therapy program, and passed National Registry Boards. Must be licensed with the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts as a Respiratory Therapist. Must be BLS, ACLS certified, and NRP certification strongly encouraged. Regular and punctual attendance is required, as well as call shifts. Physical Requirements: Occasional sitting, frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, lifting/carrying 10-15 pounds; frequent reaching/grasping, twisting, pulling/pushing, occasional exposure to Sharp instruments. Frequent exposure to equipment. Writing in English and regularly utilizing computers.
