About the role

This role involves assisting patients with daily living tasks such as bathing, dressing, and eating, while also monitoring and recording vital signs, weights, and intakes/outputs under the direction of licensed personnel. The associate must effectively interact with patients and families, assist with mobility, and promptly report any patient health concerns to the nursing staff.

Job Summary

Working under the direction of licensed personnel, assists patients with activities of daily living tasks such as bathing, dressing, and eating. Also assists with taking patients' temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration.

Does this position require Patient Care? Yes

Performs vital signs, weights/heights, intakes, and outputs with accuracy and within established time frame and/or as requested.

Completes all documentation in the medical record as required.

Interacts with patients and their families effectively.

Helps patients with a number of basic hygiene tasks. This may include bathing and dressing patients, helping them use the toilet if needed, and feeding them.

Assist with helping patients turn and reposition themselves in bed as needed and help them move between the bed and a wheelchair if they use one.

Listens to any health concerns patients may have and report those concerns to the nurses.

Qualifications: Education High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred

Licenses and Credentials Basic Life Support [BLS Certification] - Data Conversion - Various Issuers required

Certified Medical Assistant [National Certification] - Data Conversion - Various Issuers preferred

Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic [Massachusetts] - Massachusetts Office of Emergency Medical Services preferred

Nursing Assistant - Massachusetts Board of Nursing preferred

Experience Experience working in patient care/elder care 1-2 years preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Strong patient/customer service skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
  • Proficient computer skills to work efficiently with electronic medical records.

Requirements

A High School Diploma or Equivalent is preferred, but experience cannot be accepted in lieu of a degree. Required credentials include Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification, and preferred credentials include Certified Medical Assistant, EMT-Paramedic, or Nursing Assistant certifications. Candidates should possess 1-2 years of preferred experience in patient or elder care, along with the ability to follow instructions and lift up to 35 pounds.
