About the role

The Surgical Technologist assists the surgical team by preparing surgical cases, creating and maintaining a sterile field, and passing instruments, supplies, and medications to surgeons during procedures. Essential functions include accurately checking required supplies, setting up operative instrumentation, performing counts with the RN, and maintaining a neat and orderly sterile field.

In the heart of The Dalles, Oregon, Adventist Health Columbia Gorge has served the Columbia River Gorge community since 1901.

We are comprised of a 49-bed hospital, various medical offices, home health, a birthing center and a vast scope of services located throughout The Dalles and the surrounding areas.

The Dalles is known for its picturesque views of the Columbia River, local charm and delicious downtown restaurants and bakeries.

Job Summary: Assists the surgical team in the preparation of surgical procedures in the operating room.

Prepares surgical cases by creating and maintaining a sterile field, retracting and passing instruments, supplies and medications to surgeons during cases.

Performs a variety of technical skills, including the maintenance of supplies.

This position is represented by OFNHP.

Job Requirements: Education and Work Experience: High School Education/GED or equivalent: Preferred Accredited surgical technology program: Required Associate's/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Preferred Scrub technician experience: Preferred Operating room experience and/or training course: Preferred Licenses/Certifications: Surgery Technician certification: Required Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Required Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification: Preferred Facility Specific License/Certifications: AHA-BLS or ARC-BLS or AHA-CPR or ARC-CPR: Required Essential Functions: Prepares for each surgical case by accurately checking required supplies and equipment prior to case.

Assembles appropriate supplies/equipment prior to operative procedures.

Reviews equipment inventory for specialty as assigned.

Sets up operative instrumentation/sterile field for expedient retrieval/utilization.

Collects data on assigned surgical cases by the unit based Performance Standards of Care.

Cleans equipment and facilities as necessary.

Performs housekeeping duties as requested.

Transports patients according to unit schedules and priorities.

Provides clerical duties.

Completes instrument, sponge, needle and blade counts with the Registered Nurse (RN) according to established standards.

Sets up/maintains neat and orderly sterile field demonstrating careful attention to aseptic technique.

Labels solutions according to established standards.

Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

A high school education or GED is preferred, but graduation from an accredited surgical technology program is required. Candidates must possess a Surgery Technician certification and current CPR or BLS certification, with an Associate's/Technical Degree and scrub technician experience being preferred.
