Job Description

Summary: Under the direct supervision of a licensed healthcare practitioner, will assist during GI procedures. Provides support for the GI team with room set up, tear down, scope reprocessing, sterilizing and packaging instruments, maintaining inventory, specimen collection, and assisting doctors and nursing staff as directed. Will provide direct patient care during and after procedures. Will maintain sterile field as applicable. Will float out and assist with patient care in preop and pacu areas as needed.

Job Description

1. Assists healthcare practitioners with GI procedures, to include positioning of patients, scope guidance, etc. 2. Offers direct patient care during and after procedures. 3. Cleans, sterilizes and reprocesses scope equipment. 4. Assembles sterile supplies and equipment and assists with room set up and tear down. 5. Maintains inventory. 6. Handles various pharmaceutical agents on the field as added by physicians under the direction of the registered nurse. 7. Obtains and is responsible for information presented in staff meeting. 8. Records and maintains documentation regarding solutions used for disinfection. 9. Records and maintains documentation regarding the mechanized processing cycles of endoscopes. 10. Communicates incoming and outgoing messages to appropriate personnel, keeps Charge Nurse and unit staff informed of all instruments and equipment out for repair. 11. Observes universal precautions. 12. Maintains a clean, organized work area. 13. Maintains open communication with the staff and management regarding instrumentation, supplies and other unit activities 14. Collects and transports specimens to the lab. 15. Understands and maintains the segregation of sterile, contaminated, and clean articles. 16. Participates in peri-operative teaching of new employees, nursing and technician students by collaborating with the nurse manager/educator to assess learning needs and establish teaching format. I.
