The pharmacy technician assists the pharmacist in preparing and distributing drugs, maintaining drug inventory, and managing patient profiles. They also participate in quality improvement activities and ensure compliance with established policies and procedures.
A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with valid technician licensure through the State of Illinois and certification from the Pharmacy Technician Board. Hospital and IV compounding experience is preferred.
Description The pharmacy technician assists the pharmacist in preparing and distributing drugs, maintaining the drug inventory and maintenance of records. Pharmacy technicians work only under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. They do not perform duties that can only legally be performed by a registered pharmacist.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE High School graduate or equivalent. Hospital and IV compounding experience preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Valid technician licensure through the State of Illinois. Certification from the Pharmacy Technician Board
PHYSICAL DEMANDS Repetitive use of hands and fingers (e.g., preparing IV admixtures, use of a computer keyboard). May require medium lifting and carrying light loads (not more than 25 lbs.) and stooping or kneeling. Walking or standing for long periods of time (4-8 hours) is sometimes necessary. Must be able to physically operate the equipment used in the job.
