The primary role involves obtaining patient specimens and performing various laboratory tests on biological samples like blood, urine, body fluids, and feces, ensuring results are reported according to policy. Additionally, the position may require supervising and operating the laboratory when requested by management to maintain departmental and hospital function.
Candidates must possess a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology or an Associate Degree as a Medical Laboratory Technician, or equivalent experience, along with required certification from ASCP, NCA, AMT, or a state-accepted equivalent. Previous experience as a technologist/technician is preferred, but clinical rotation experience may suffice for recent graduates.
Under the general supervision of the Laboratory Supervisor, obtains patient specimens, performs laboratory tests on blood, urine, body fluids, feces, and reports test results according to prescribed laboratory policies and procedures. Responsible for the supervision and operation of the laboratory if so requested by the laboratory manager and performs any other task necessary to maintain the proper functioning of the department and the hospital.
