The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for administering all levels of Respiratory Care to treat patients suffering from cardiopulmonary dysfunction and/or disabilities across various age groups from neonates to adults. This includes maintaining proficiency in all required skills to provide safe, effective, and appropriate care within high-level care units.
Candidates must complete a minimum two-year AMA-approved Respiratory Care Program (Associate's Degree) and possess required licenses including RRT and DC RCP license, along with BLS and PALS certifications. Experience requirements vary significantly by level (RCP I, II, or III), ranging from 0 years up to 5 years total experience with specific pediatric/neonatal critical care requirements for senior levels.

Under general direction of the department manager, according to departmental and hospital standards, the Respiratory Therapist (Respiratory Care Practitioner, referred to as RCP-I, RCP II, and RCP III) is responsible for administering all levels of Respiratory Care to treat patients with cardiopulmonary dysfunction and/or disabilities. The RCP will maintain all skills and knowledge sufficient to provide safe, effective, and appropriate care to all ages of patients including neonates, infants, toddlers, children, adolescents, and adults.
