The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for administering all levels of Respiratory Care to treat patients with cardiopulmonary dysfunction and/or disabilities across various hospital units. This includes maintaining proficiency in care for all ages, from neonates to adults, and performing required monitoring and diagnostic procedures.
Candidates must have completed a minimum two-year AMA-approved Respiratory Care Program (Associate's Degree) and possess required licenses including RRT and a DC DOH RCP License, along with BLS and PALS certifications. Experience requirements vary by level (RCP I, II, III), with RCP III requiring five years of experience including two in pediatric/neonatal critical care.

Under general direction of the department manager, according to departmental and hospital standards, the Respiratory Therapist (Respiratory Care Practitioner, referred to as RCP-I, RCP II, and RCP III) is responsible for administering all levels of Respiratory Care to treat patients with cardiopulmonary dysfunction and/or disabilities. The RCP will maintain all skills and knowledge sufficient to provide safe, effective, and appropriate care to all ages of patients including neonates, infants, toddlers, children, adolescents, and adults.
