About the role

The Medical Assistant performs administrative and clinical duties under direct supervision, assisting the medical provider with direct patient care and serving as a clinical liaison between the physician, patient, and office staff. Responsibilities include taking patients to rooms, obtaining vital signs, assisting with procedures, performing phlebotomy, and maintaining electronic medical records.

Responsibilities

  • Performs administrative and clinical duties under the direct supervision of a medical provider - physician, physician assistant or nurse practitioner - in the medical office setting
  • The Medical Assistant works closely with the physician in the practice/center clinical setting, assists with direct patient care, and serves as the clinical liaison between physician and patient and between physician and the office staff
  • The incumbent is responsible for promoting communication among all care providers, patients, and office staff regarding the care plan for the patient as defined by the attending physician
  • This individual attends to patients utilizing the age appropriate principles of growth and development for patients of all ages according to the practice specialty
  • Taking patients to rooms
  • Greeting patients
  • Obtaining vital signs
  • Assisting with medical procedures
  • Performing phlebotomy
  • Obtaining lab specimens
  • Prior authorizations
  • Adhering to safety and infection guidelines
  • Maintaining electronic medical records (EMR)
  • Calculating & administering medications & vaccinations

Qualifications

  • Kentucky Medical Assistant Degree
  • Medical Assistant Certification preferred
  • BLS Certification
  • At least 1 year of experience preferred

Requirements
