The Registered Nurse is responsible for adhering to critical care protocols, performing comprehensive patient assessments, administering medications including critical drips, and managing complex therapies like ventilation and blood products. This role also involves accurate documentation, interpreting cardiac rhythms, and responding effectively to emergency situations like code blues.
Candidates must possess a current New Jersey State RN license and hold current BLS and ACLS certifications approved by the AHA. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred, and a minimum of two years of experience working in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is required.
Adheres to CLABSI and CAUTI protocols Performs venipuncture, IV infusion therapy and pump usage Wound care assessment, documentation and wound prevention protocol as per policy Completes Plan of Care. Initiate, review and resolve based on diagnosis and history Completes assessments and reassessments and required documentation accurately and timely Renders appropriate nutritional care including enteral + parenteral therapies Medication administration which includes critical medications and evaluates response Adheres to infection prevention protocol including but not limited to hand hygiene, PPE and universal precautions Administration of blood and blood products Able to perform chest PT, oral, naso, tracheostomy, endo, and tracheal suctioning Activates Core Measures and Septic Protocols as indicated Able to perform chest PT, oral, naso, tracheostomy, endo, and tracheal suctioning Reports critical Lab, Radiology, EKG, + ABG values to MD according to policy Interprets cardiac monitor rhythm + performs appropriate interventions Identifies + responds to emergency situations Proficient in ventilation management + pulmonary support Demonstrates proficiency in life support; code blue and Rapid Response Adapts to varied age specific patient populations; e.g. infant, toddler, adult, etc. Identifies concomitant health + social needs of patients Ensures proper discharge instructions and medication reconciliation including follow-up referral Assists with bedside interventional procedures
Documents patients pain assessment, pain goal and documents prn effectiveness of pain medications within 1 hour of administration Administers Stat medications within one half hour of physicians order Verifies all physician orders in Careview Demonstrates proficiency is administration of emergency medications and drips Reports any changes in patients condition immediately to either Hospitalist or Attending Physician. Documents for restraints done per protocol. Completes documentation for patient transfers to another facility Demonstrates fiscal responsibility by completing their assignments and charting within the designated time of their shift Initiates DVT prophylaxis when appropriate Proficient in neuromuscular blocking agents and train of four
Education + experience requirements: Current NJ State RN license BSN preferred
BLS, ACLS certifications - AHA approved Minimum of 2 Years of experience in Intensive Care Unit
