The role involves providing patient care activities for a group of patients and their families through independent judgment, communication, and collaboration with the team, while establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with physicians and other providers to achieve desired patient outcomes. Responsibilities include formulating plans of care, demonstrating critical thinking, and actively engaging in the clinical development of all healthcare team members.
Candidates must be a graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant (PA) or Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (PNP-AC) program and be eligible for Board Certification and licensure in Pennsylvania; previous pediatric experience is preferred. The position requires participation in a 6-month APP Transition-to-Practice Program and adherence to a schedule involving 10-hour shifts, including weekend rotations.
UPMC Children’s Harrisburg is a newly remodeled pediatric unit within UPMC Harrisburg Hospital, featuring both Pediatric Intensive Care (PICU) and General Pediatric services. The unit currently includes 16 inpatient beds, with planned expansion to 30 beds. The hospital campus also includes a newly built Women’s and Babies Center and a Level III NICU, supporting comprehensive pediatric and neonatal care.
The pediatric medical staff is multidisciplinary and collaborative, including pediatric hospitalists, intensivists, cardiologists, endocrinologists, gastroenterologists, neurologists, ophthalmologists, pediatric surgeons, and advanced practice providers. Our team delivers high-quality, family-centered care with strong subspecialty support.
Providers also benefit from 24/7 access to UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, which is nationally ranked in all 11 pediatric specialties by U.S. News & World Report. Through bedside telemedicine, providers have real-time consultation with pediatric subspecialists and intensivists, ensuring expert-level support for complex cases at all times.
