About the role

The Physician Assistant will assess patients, establish presumptive diagnoses, and implement treatment plans, including ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests and prescribing therapy. Responsibilities also involve staffing Trauma Alerts and Consultations, providing care to admitted Trauma Surgery patients on med-surg floors, and performing procedures within the scope of practice.

Job Duties

Position Details

  • Shifts: 13 (12 hour shifts) every 4 weeks
  • Support staff: Physicians, Advanced Practice Providers, RNs (available all hours of operation), Phlebotomy, Radiology Techs
  • Electronic Health Record: Epic
  • Trauma Alerts and Consultations: Advanced Practice providers will staff Trauma Alerts and Consultations. Staff will also provide care to admitted Trauma Surgery patients on our med-surg floors.
  • Services: In-patient care, outpatient care, procedures
  • Minimal OR time
  • Opportunity for procedures
  • Occasional outpatient clinic
  • Monthly AP Meetings and Journal Clubs
  • Supportive and accessible Attending Physicians
  • Work with multi-disciplinary team including nurses, case management, social workers
  • Monthly Morbidity and Mortality meetings

Other details

Assesses and establishes a presumptive diagnosis and implements treatment plans for their patient population.

Makes accurate and complete entries into the electronic medical record; orders and interprets diagnostic testing and consults as appropriate and prescribes appropriate medical therapy utilizing evidenced based practice.

Prescribes, adjusts or discontinues medications or therapies as appropriate.

Evaluates and reports to collaborating physician any circumstances or approaches to medical management or test results that present a significant risk to patient's health or well-being.

Performs procedures within the scope of practice of the physician assistant license.

Communicates with collaborative physician, patient, PCP and referring staff through telephone or other means of correspondence.

Instills confidence in patient acting as their advocate by providing safe, ethical care and health education to the patient and their family in a language that they can understand.

Interprets and follow policies and guidelines to define procedures and meet goals and deadlines.

Work is typically performed in a clinical environment.

Accountable for satisfying all job specific obligations and complying with all organization policies and procedures.

Requirements

Candidates are required to possess a Master's Degree in Physician Assistant studies and maintain a Certified Physician Assistant certification from NCCPA, along with Basic Life Support Certification.
