The APP monitors and evaluates the psychiatric condition of patients, making treatment changes in collaboration with psychiatrists and adhering to standards of care. Essential functions also include performing comprehensive behavioral health assessments, ordering and prescribing medications, and directing diagnostic tests.
Candidates must possess a Master's Degree, either from an accredited Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Program (for RNs) or an accredited Physician Assistant Program (for PAs), along with required board certifications or exams. One to three years of related clinical experience is preferred, and required licenses include NP or PA licensure, BLS, and DEA Registration.

Knowledgeable and compliant with all regulatory standards, including specialty level requirements. Knowledge of major concepts, principles and theories related to substance abuse and psychiatric disease processes. Skill in utilizing the principles and practices of effective communication to elicit pertinent history from patients and negotiate problem solving. Skill in performing patient assessments, formulating treatment plans for patients. Knowledge of appropriate administration and prescription of psychiatric medications. Knowledge of individual and group dynamics and treatment methods to assist patient in achieving goals. Skill in preparing written reports, medical records, and other documentation. Ability to be actively involved in multidisciplinary teams relevant to quality improvement. Ability to serve as a consultant to resolve/discuss ethical issues. Ability to use computers and computer systems. Ability to drive to different DH locations may be required in this position. A valid driver’s license is required. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; Excel, Outlook, and Word.
