The Echocardiography Technologist performs diagnostic procedures using ultrasound to produce images of the heart. They ensure patient comfort and safety, operate diagnostic equipment, and document procedures accurately.

Job summary

Performs diagnostic echocardiography procedures using ultrasound technology to obtain images of the heart. Supports diagnostic and therapeutic cardiac services for a designated patient population.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduate of accredited cardiac ultrasound program OR nationally credentialed OR two years OJT cardiac ultrasound experience.
  • Licensed Cardiovascular Technologist or Technician.
  • BLS certification preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in Adult, Pediatric, or Fetal Echocardiography.

  • Essential duties & responsibilities
  • Explain procedures and ensure patient comfort/safety.
  • Verify patient identification and obtain clinical history.
  • Perform echocardiography studies per protocol.
  • Identify/adjust for normal and abnormal cardiac function.
  • Operate and maintain diagnostic ultrasound equipment.
  • Document and archive studies in hospital systems.
  • Clean and disinfect equipment per infection control standards.
  • Communicate findings effectively with physicians.
  • Participate in on‑call rotation and emergency response.
  • Assist with orientation and education of staff.
  • Maintain continuing education and credentialing requirements.

  • Ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, squatting, and kneeling.
  • Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs independently; >50 lbs with assistance/devices.
  • Assist with patient transfers/positioning using proper body mechanics.
  • Manual dexterity for procedures and computer use; adequate vision, hearing, and speech.

Requirements

Candidates must be graduates of an accredited school of cardiac ultrasound or have two years of proven experience in cardiac ultrasound. A license as a Cardiovascular Technologist or Technician is required, along with preferred BLS certification.
