About the role

The primary role involves conducting comprehensive assessments for individuals with severe mental illness or intellectual/developmental disabilities to understand how their disability impacts daily occupations. This includes developing remediation strategies, monitoring training effectiveness, and preparing required documentation and reports.

Description Job Purpose To conduct assessments of tasks that are necessary for healthy, meaningful, day to day living of individuals with severe mental illness and/or intellectual/developmental disabilities. Identifies the impact of an individual’s cognitive, emotional and/or physical disability on that individual’s ability to perform occupations, including basic self-care activities, instrumental activities of daily living, education, work, and social participation. Collaborates in the development of strategies for remediation of obstacles of occupational performance and enhancement of strengths and interests to optimize functioning.

Duties and Responsibilities

Employees will be required to follow any other job-related instructions and to perform any other job-related duties requested by the supervisor. Essential Duties Interviews individuals to obtain information concerning clinical history for an assessment for individuals from our tri-county area face to face or by video telehealth. Completes an initial assessment during the interview process mentioned above, develops a plan/program training, and monitors/consults with staff providing training to ensure effectiveness and develop alternative interventions as needed. Prepares reports and documents services as required by NBHS, AOTA, MDHHS and other accrediting agency policies, procedures, and regulations. Services provided may include: OBRA assessments, BHH assessments, and assistance with HAB waivers for individuals in services with NBHS. Provides any referrals, linkage, or assessments as needed and requested that are determined to be necessary for obtaining adaptive equipment and/or support for insurance requirements. Conducts measurement of individual clinical outcome and individual satisfaction as directed. Participates in community education activities, staff training in-service, and continuing professional development as directed. Ensures that case records are in compliance with NBHS and all other regulatory bodies. Provides consultation to contracted residential and skill building programs.

Qualifications

This position will actively support the mission, vision, and values of the agency. Must meet provider qualifications set in the Michigan Medicaid Provider Manual The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Education, Certifications, and/or Experience Degree in occupational therapy from an accredited college or university. Membership in the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) desired. Certification as an Occupational Therapist from the National Board for Certification of Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). Certification as a Registered Occupational Therapist from the State of Michigan. Must have a valid driver’s license.

Requirements

Candidates must possess a degree in occupational therapy from an accredited institution and hold certification from NBCOT and the State of Michigan, along with a valid driver's license. Membership in the AOTA is desired.
