The registered professional nurse is responsible for the direct and indirect care of patients, safely performing all treatments and therapies within the dialysis unit. This includes familiarity with various treatment modalities and troubleshooting water treatment systems.
Candidates must be a graduate from an accredited School of Nursing and hold current Tennessee licensure, maintaining BLS certification. Preferred experience includes ICU or previous Dialysis experience, and the role requires completing a critical care course and maintaining ACLS certification.
A registered professional critical care nurse employed by Erlanger Medical Center is responsible for direct and/or indirect care of the patient. Responsible for safely performing all forms of treatments and therapies that are done in the dialysis unit.

Required: Knowledge of general nursing principles and practice skills; knowledge of organizational functions, policies and regulations; knowledge of current trends and new developments; knowledge of principles and practices of nursing, applicable to those areas requiring special education.
ICU or previous Dialysis experience.
The Nurse Licensure Compact will not change how to obtain or renew a Tennessee license. However, the Tennessee nursing license will be a single state license for Tennessee Residents or non-compact state residents. Tennessee licensure or multistate licensure from a compact state must be obtained within three months of hire for non-Tennessee residents.

A registered nurse in the dialysis unit must be familiar with treatment modalities of hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, apheresis, and continuous renal replacement therapy, have the skill to assess for complications and outcomes of each modality. Must be able to start, check, test and troubleshoot fixed and portable R.O. water treatment systems. Must have completed a critical care course and maintain ACLS, BLS certification. Must be available to take on call at least 2 times a week and work overtime to provide appropriate staffing for the unit and complete necessary patient treatments. Must be a resource to other units caring for patients with renal failure and be willing to travel to other units to access different types of dialysis catheters.
