The Patient Care Technician assists the RN or LPN with direct patient care and personal care needs, while also functioning as a unit secretary performing duties like transcribing physician orders and managing patient records. This role involves providing essential assistance and comfort to patients to ensure they receive the best possible experience during their healthcare journey.
Candidates must possess a High School Diploma or equivalent and preferably have previous Patient Care Technician experience. Required credentials include being a Certified Nursing Assistant or EMT, documented completion of an accredited nursing school program, current American Heart Association BLS Certification, and obtaining Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification within 90 days of hire.

A Patient Care Technician is responsible and accountable for assisting the RN or LPN in the provision of patient care and tending to the personal care needs of the patient as directed by the RN or LPN, as well as functioning as a unit secretary. Unit Secretary duties include, but are not limited to, the transcription and data entry of physician orders, retrieving patient information, maintaining patients' data records, answering phones, taking and reporting messages, running errands, delivery and pick up of specimens and supplies, as well as ordering and restocking of unit supplies.
