The Certified Medical Dosimetrist is responsible for generating clinically acceptable treatment plans using extensive clinical knowledge in radiation oncology, biology, and physics. This role involves communicating the treatment plan to the Radiation Oncologist, Qualified Medical Physicist, and Radiation Therapy Technologist for implementation.
Under the direction of the Medical Director and the Chief Therapeutic Medical Physicist, the Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD) is responsible for generating a clinically acceptable treatment plan utilizing clinical knowledge including, but not limited, but not limited to, anatomy and physiology; radiation biology and oncology, radiation safety and protection; mathematics, and radiation therapy techniques, physics and technology. The CMD is expected to communicate with the Radiation Oncologist (RO) during the treatment planning process and participates in communicating the plan to the Qualified Medical Physicist (QMP) and the Radiation Therapy Technologist (RTT) for implementation. The CMD must maintain a commitment to a high degree of accuracy, attention to detail, and safety. The CMD must use critical thinking skills when performing radiation treatment planning, plan evaluation, recognizing and resolving equipment problems and treatment discrepancies.
Candidates must have a Bachelor's Degree and be a graduate of an accredited medical dosimetry program, along with one year of practicing medical dosimetry experience. Certification as a Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD) is required upon hire or within one year of employment.
