About the role

As a Surgical Technologist, you will assist in surgical procedures by preparing the operating room and passing instruments to surgeons. You will ensure a sterile environment and support the surgical team in maintaining safety and efficiency.

Job Overview

Fairview has an immediate opening for a Surgical Technologist in the OR at St. John's Hospital located in Maplewood, MN. The Cardiovascular Surgical Technician receives a $2.50/hour augmentation.

Schedule

  • This position will be working 0.8 FTE (64 hours every two weeks). The shift length will be 8 hours on the day/evening shift. This position will also work rotating weekends and holidays. As a Surgical Technologist, you’ll assist in surgical procedures by preparing the operating room, arranging, and passing instruments to surgeons, and ensuring a sterile environment under the guidance of a Registered Nurse. You’ll play a crucial role in supporting the surgical team and maintaining the safety and efficiency of the operating room. Our Surg techs work as a part of a strong team and their cases include, but are not limited to, general, dental, ear, nose, and throat, endoscopy, vascular, thoracic, open heart, orthopedics, neurology, bariatrics, solid organ transplant, gynecologic, colo-rectal, urology, plastics, and Da Vinci robotics.

  • Technologist, you will be responsible for: Supplying appropriate instruments, suture, and specialty items. Maintaining aseptic technique during all sterile procedures. Ensuring accurate identification and handling of specimens. Counting all required sponges, sharps, and instruments. Assuring availability and accurate functioning of supplies and equipment. Modifying clinical interventions based on population served. Nurturing a culture of improvement, efficiency, and innovative thinking. Anticipating the surgeon’s needs. Following appropriate action in emergency situations.

  • Qualifications:
  • Complete one of the following by hire date: Military Surgical Assistant; OR LPN (licensed in MN) Surgical Assistant; OR Surgical Technologist training At least 1 year of Cardiovascular experience as a Surgical Technologist Basic Life Support (BLS) through Health Care Providers (or ability to obtain by hire date)

Preferred Qualifications

Graduate from an accredited Surgical Technologist program AST certification or certification eligible at time of hire 1 to 3 years surgical tech experience Other Required Skills: Knowledge of physical, psychosocial, and cognitive developmental needs of population served. Knowledge of age-appropriate outcomes and interventions. Desired Skills: Demonstrate the ability to work under stress in a variety of situations. Ability to work well under a team environment. Excellent communication skills. The ability to prioritize and multi-task in a complex work environment.

Requirements

Candidates must complete a Surgical Technologist training program or have relevant military or LPN experience by the hire date. Basic Life Support certification is also required, with preference given to those with AST certification and 1 to 3 years of surgical tech experience.
