The MRI Technologist performs MRI procedures under the direction of a radiologist, requiring independent judgment to apply prescribed imaging for diagnosis. Responsibilities also include ensuring patient safety, assessing pain interfering with imaging, and performing required quality control checks.
Candidates must possess a current NYS Radiologic Technology license/registration, including a permit for injections, and be registered or eligible by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. Two years of experience is preferred, along with strong communication skills and the ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
The MRI Technologist is under the direction of the radiologist, performs MRI procedures at the technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail. Performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgment with ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed imaging for diagnosis. Assumes responsibility for designated are or procedures as required. Responsible for the care and safety of patients undergoing treatment and use of equipment to minimize hazards of electric shock, burns and extraneous radiation to patients. Determines most suitable anatomical posture and positions and shields patients accordingly. Able to assess patient pain interfering with imaging procedure; makes appropriate physician contact for intervention. Takes call according to monthly schedule after the closing of the regular department. Performs all quality control checks, as prescribed. Maintains accurate QC logs, service records, etc. Performs highest quality imaging consistent with prescribed examination; documents and deviation. Understands and practices proper use of all equipment; never operates equipment inconsistent with manufacturer’s instruction. Completes annual educational requirements and consistently completes and maintains assigned duties; maintains PAR levels. Disposes biomedical waste using CDC and OSHA guidelines.
Current NYS Radiologic Technology license/registration, including permit for injections. Registered or eligible by American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (Advanced Certification preferred). Graduate of an approved school for Radiologic Technology. Two years experience is preferred. Must possess strong communications skills and good understanding of verbal and written instruction.
