The phlebotomist is responsible for performing venipunctures, ensuring correct patient identification, and collecting the appropriate specimen type at the correct time. This role also involves ensuring proper handling and transport of specimens to the laboratory, along with potential preanalytical, postanalytical, and clerical tasks.
Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in the MS Office suite and possess strong verbal and written communication abilities, along with knowledge of blood and body fluid precautions. Successful completion of a Certified Phlebotomy Training program and 3-5 years of Phlebotomy experience in an acute care hospital setting is preferred.
The phlebotomist performs venipunctures and ensures the proper identification of the patient and the collection of the correct type of specimen at the appropriate time. The phlebotomist ensures proper handling and transport of specimens to the appropriate laboratory. The phlebotomist may also perform preanalytical and post analytical tasks, as well as clerical duties.
Demonstrated proficiency in MS office suite of products. Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Demonstrates knowledge of blood and body fluid precautions.
