The Phlebotomist is responsible for collecting blood specimens from patients via venipuncture and skin puncture according to orders and regulations, ensuring specimens are complete and accurate for testing. This role also involves explaining procedures, labeling specimens, maintaining work areas, utilizing the laboratory information system, and performing delegated clerical laboratory functions.
Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and formal Phlebotomy training as required by the state, along with current BLS certification. Preferred experience includes six months of acute care phlebotomy or one year as a medical assistant performing venipuncture.
