About the role

This professional will perform dental measures to preserve teeth and prevent disease under the supervision of the Site Dental Director, including preparing the operatory, recording patient histories, and performing cleanings and preventative treatments. Key duties involve scaling, root planning, applying fluorides and sealants, and providing oral health education to patients.

This professional will work under the supervision of the Site Dental Director and will perform dental measures designed to preserve teeth and prevent the spread of disease. In addition, they will perform emergency diagnosis and provide oral health education to patients by performing some but not limited to the following duties. Open to Limited License Dentists as well as Hygienists.

Essential Duties and Major Responsibilities

  • Prepare operatory for patient care by cleaning, sanitizing, and maintaining equipment, sterilizing, and sharpening equipment.
  • Greet the patient, making them feel at ease and comfortable.
  • Take and record medical and dental histories and update personal information in the patient’s chart.
  • Expose and develop x-ray film.
  • Make intra-oral impressions for study casts.
  • Pour study models, trim, and make bleaching trays. Dispense bleach and inform the proper usage to patient.
  • Perform full mouth periodontal probing or PSR on initial and appropriate subsequent visits. Record findings; note bleeding mobility, furcate involvement, and tissue tone in the patient’s chart.
  • Clean calcareous deposits, accretions, and stains from teeth supra and sub-gingivally.
  • Scaling Root Planning and Periodontic maintenance cleanings, determine whether the patient needs a 3, 4, or 6-month recall.
  • Apply fluorides and other decay-preventing agents to arrest dental decay.
  • Polish and floss teeth
  • Remove excess cement from the coronal surfaces of teeth.
  • Evaluate emergency patient’s oral issues.
  • Provide clinical services and health education to improve and maintain oral health such as brushing, flossing, and other plaque control methods.
  • Apply sealant to the surfaces of teeth per the diagnosis of the dentist.
  • Prioritize activities and assignments as to their relative importance.
  • Exercise care in the completion of work assignments and request direction when needed.
  • Implement improvement measures and suggest ways to improve the efficiency of operation and working conditions.
  • Attend all mandatory office and health center meetings.
  • Works as part of a team and works at the Fitchburg Community Health Center as required.
  • Demonstrate understanding and commitment to the health center mission
  • Demonstrate understanding and commitment to the established CHC Values and Standards
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelors Degree in Dental Surgery or graduate from an accredited Dental Hygiene School
  • Meet the State of Massachusetts requirement for Limited License Dentists
  • Certified in CPR
  • Valid Massachusetts Limited License in Dentistry
  • Minimum of one (1) year of professional experience preferred.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English

Requirements

Candidates must meet the State of Massachusetts requirements for Limited License Dentists or be graduates of an accredited Dental Hygiene School, holding at least a Bachelor's degree equivalent. Certification in CPR and a valid Massachusetts Limited License in Dentistry are mandatory, with a minimum of one year of professional experience preferred.
