The GI/GE Nurse collaborates with doctors to diagnose and treat gastrointestinal conditions, functioning as a scrub or circulator during procedures like colonoscopy and endoscopy. Responsibilities include comprehensive patient assessment, planning and executing the nursing plan of care, and managing pre- and post-procedure patient needs.
Candidates must be graduates of an accredited school of registered nursing with a current, unrestricted license in the state of practice, requiring at least one year of experience in a GI/GE lab. Required credentials include BLS and ACLS certification, with PALS needed for pediatric populations.
The GASTROINTESTINAL (GI), GASTROENTEROLGY (GE) LABORATORY NURSE works in collaboration with doctors to diagnose and treat conditions affecting the gastrointestinal tract. GI/GE nurses might work as scrub or circulators in the GI lab (colonoscopy, endoscopy). The GI/GE nurse may work in a variety of settings such as hospitals, physician practices and outpatient clinics. The GI/GE Lab nurse works under the supervision of physicians and nursing supervisors/managers.

Day 4x10-Hour (07:00 - 17:30)
Facility: Medstar Washington Hospital Center in 10 Irving St NW Washington, DC 20010
Graduate of an accredited school of registered nursing.
Current unrestricted nursing license in the state of practice.
At least one year of experience in a GI/GE lab; scrub/circulator experience may be required for some positions.
BLS and ACLS; PALS required of nurses serving the pediatric population; health and screening tests as required by specific facilities and/or regulatory agencies.
Various client facility settings; possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and other potentially infectious materials.
