The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) administers general, regional and monitored anesthesia care for scheduled and emergency surgical and obstetrical procedures and perform anesthesia-related procedures. The CRNA evaluates, formulates, and carries out an anesthesia care plan including monitoring and recording patient reaction to anesthesia and modifying the anesthetic plan accordingly. The CRNA transports patients to and from an anesthetizing location and ensures appropriate care during the postoperative period. The CRNA may supervise, instruct, and provide feedback to student nurse anesthetists to ensure patient safety.
Candidates must be graduates of an accredited nurse anesthesia program with a minimum of a Master's Degree and hold current Kentucky RN and APRN licenses or a compact state license. Required certifications include CRNA certification by AANA, current BLS, and ACLS, with two years of acute setting anesthesia experience preferred.
