The Medical Laboratory Technician performs moderate and high complexity laboratory procedures accurately, supporting all phases of the laboratory workflow including pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic functions. This role requires adherence to CLIA standards, performing quality control, documenting maintenance, and identifying/correcting issues affecting test performance.
Candidates must possess an Associate degree and completion of an accredited Medical Technology program or an equivalent laboratory science degree with equivalent training, along with a minimum of six months of full-time clinical laboratory experience. Applicants must also hold appropriate state and federal licensure or certification as required.
Summary The Medical Laboratory Technician performs laboratory procedures in a timely and accurate manner in accordance with established hospital and departmental policies. This role supports all phases of the laboratory workflow, including Pre Analytic, Analytic, and Post Analytic functions. The technician may share responsibility for assigning work to self and coworkers in the absence of a supervisor or lead. All duties must comply with CLIA standards, including requirements outlined in 42CFR493.1495 for high complexity testing and 42CFR493.1425 for moderate complexity testing personnel.
Education Associate degree and successful completion of a Medical Technology program accredited by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation CAHEA, or equivalent training, education and experience such as military.
Experience Six months of full-time clinical laboratory experience required. Clinical laboratory experience obtained during an accredited Medical Technology program meets this requirement.
Licensure and Certification Appropriate licensure or certification as required by state and federal regulations.
Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesWorking knowledge of general types of laboratory equipment (centrifuge, microscope, etc.) keyboard, LIS, calculators, fax, auto analyzers. Basic computer skills required.
