Job summary

The anesthesiologist provides perioperative care in support of orthopaedic surgical procedures. Administers anesthetic; provides pre-operative evauation and post-operative follow-up. Functions as a patient advocate and confidant, advisor and liaison between patients, families, nurses, and physicians.

Schedule

• Mondays and
• Saturdays 6:30am - 5:00pm (06:30 - 17:00)

Essential duties and responsibilities

• Performs pre-anesthetic evaluations with appropriate documentation of findings and pertinent information regarding the choice of anesthesia.
• Reviews condition of the patient and their medical record immediately prior to induction, including pertinent lab data, time of administration, dosage of pre-anesthesia, and an appraisal of any changes in the condition of the patient.
• Interviews and examines patients preparing to undergo anesthesia to ensure he/she is an appropriate candidate for the planned anesthetic.
• Proficiency with peripheral nerve blocks is a must.
• Makes recommendations for anesthetic plans appropriate to the patient's condition and the procedure to be performed.
• Verifies function of equipment pror to the administration of anesthesia.
• Administers anesthesia to patients; ensures adequate ventilation and circulatory function of the patient during all anesthesia.
• Performs intra-operative monitoring, remaining continuously present to monitor the patient and provide anesthesia care.
