Requirements summary
Candidates must possess an active RN license for the state and hold current ACLS, PALS, and BLS certifications. The position requires performing duties in a standard office environment with significant telephone and computer data entry work.
Conducts rounds, discusses and monitors infection prevention practices with staff members, collects infection data from departments, maintains records for each case of healthcare- associated infection, conducts outbreak investigation, trains staff members on implementation of infection prevention practices, investigates incidents of infections and reports such incidents to the Infection Control Director and ensures availability of supplies required for infection prevention activities.
Specifically, the
IP is responsible for the following:
Making recommendations regarding the prevention and control of infection
Providing advice for all staff members regarding the management of infectious patients and other infection prevention issues
Coordinating the annual infection control risk assessment in conjunction with the Infection Prevention Committee (IPC)
Developing and implementing the annual infection prevention plan in conjunction with the IPC
Evaluating the annual plan for goal achievement in conjunction with the IPC
Conducting surveillance of infections and personnel IP behavior
Providing education and training for all staff members and independent practitioners regarding the prevention of HAIs
Presenting/providing the infection prevention annual report to the IPC and Quality Assurance department; this report is to include results of infection prevention program goal achievements and matters of concern
Cooperating with the county and state department of health regarding infectious and communicable disease reporting
Collaborate with surgeons, nursing staff, and physical therapy to create and update the curriculum for pre-operative total joint replacement classes
Develop and maintain all pre-op total teaching and discharge material, and care map for total joint replacement patients
Teach pre-operative education classes for total joint replacement patients
Establish and maintain communication with orthopedic office coordinators
Provide continuous, daily support and education to the patient and their family via phone calls, rounds, direct instructions, relating to their specific procedure. Outline the steps involved throughout their continuum of care
Collaborate with American Joint Replacement Registry to provide data and actively participates in ongoing Quality Assurance Program.
Performs initial screening of potential total joint patients and all other patients to determine if they are suitable candidates for the ASC
Oversees the ASC's total joint program
Helps to prepare the ASC for the AAAHC Advanced Orthopedic Certification.
Establishes and maintains policies and procedures for the total joint program
