Aurora Residential Alternatives Mental Health Program assists individuals who are experiencing a mental health crisis, providing comprehensive services in a community-based setting. Aurora’s skilled mental health technicians support individuals with a wide range of emotional and mental health issues.

Socialization/Leisure/Recreation

  • Our staff has the advantage of facilitating recreational leisure activities that create opportunities to meet others, engage in social interactions, and develop friendships. Supporting participation in fun social outings and creative activities allows our consumers to pursue their interests, experience new things, and be more involved in their communities.
  • Seek out opportunities for community/social integration that enables new and exciting experiences
  • Help consumers plan and prepare their choice of fun events and outings
  • Create entertaining individual and group activities
  • Consumer Advocacy
  • Assist/teach skills that create opportunities for socialization and community engagement
  • Utilize consumer strengths to build new skills, achieve goals, and enhance quality of independent living
  • Suggest changes to improve consumer lifestyle
  • Seek out opportunities for new and exciting experiences
  • Medication/Health
  • Accompany consumers to scheduled medical appointments and communicate changes in medications, treatment orders, or therapies
  • Report changes in consumer’s medical condition or eating habits immediately to supervisor
  • Follow prescribed special dietary programs
  • Implement procedures for infection control in compliance with Infection Control Policy and Exposure Control Policy
  • Exercise sanitary food service, housekeeping, and laundry practices

Essential Functions/Requirements

  • 2 years of experience mental health/substance abuse disorders
  • 18 years of age
  • Acceptable Background Character Verification
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Must be able to twist, turn, squat, bend, reach, pull, push from high/low position, raise arms above shoulder, walk, sit (chair and floor), climb stairs, and use hands and fingers
  • Communicate basic English
  • Basic reading, writing, and internet navigation skills
  • Experience with adults with disabilities preferred
  • Float Staff Requirements/Qualifications
  • Work and training schedule is obtained ONLY from the Direct Support Coordinator
  • Must be available every other weekend
  • Must maintain a minimum of Secondary Drive Status
  • Must be willing to travel to all operations within the region
  • Drive time is paid after 30 minutes of travel from staff residence
  • Drive time reimbursement must be submitted monthly
  • If full time, the employee must maintain a full-time work schedule
  • 2+ years of experience in residential services required
  • Frequent schedule changes/declining scheduled shifts is grounds for discharge
  • If “regular” position is desired, must apply – rate of pay would be regular rate of pay for that position
