The Pharmacy Technician I is responsible for providing technical support to pharmacists, including the preparation, packaging, and delivery of medications for patients. They also interact with patients and medical personnel, handle narcotics, and assist in maintaining pharmacy technologies.
A high school diploma or GED is required, with a preference for graduates of a pharmacy tech program. Candidates should have at least 1 year of experience in a pharmaceutical environment and possess good interpersonal and customer relations skills.
Good interpersonal and customer relations skills are needed to communicate effectively with various hospital personnel and families and to gather and exchange factual pharmaceutical information. Ability to work well under pressure due to time constraints and varying workloads. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail. Ability to operate a computer in order to generate lists, process medication orders, enter charges/credits, generate labels, retrieve patient information, and handle automated dispensing unit functions.
