The Phlebotomist functions as a laboratory professional responsible for performing specimen collection techniques, which include venipuncture and capillary draws. This role also involves providing instructions for urine collection and specimen culture collection.
A High School diploma or equivalent is required, along with completion of an accredited phlebotomy or medical assistant program that included clinical experience, or previous phlebotomy experience. Certification from a nationally recognized agency is mandatory.
