The Provisional Respiratory Therapist administers medically prescribed respiratory care modalities, focusing on routine care areas excluding critical patients. Responsibilities also include interdisciplinary communication, monitoring, documentation, and educating patients and families about their condition and therapy.
Applicants must be a Respiratory Therapy Student in the last semester of their program, approved for a Provisional License by the State of Oklahoma, and must achieve RRT status within one year of receiving the provisional license. Required certifications include current BLS, and obtaining NRP within 6 months of hire, along with maintaining ACLS or PALS.
Summary Administers medically prescribed respiratory care modalities as permitted for Provisional License. Provides patient care in specific routine care areas, which exclude critical patients. Provides interdisciplinary communication, monitoring, and documentation of patient’s condition on medical record and department record. Educate patient and family regarding patient condition, current therapy, and possible recommended home therapy (consults with shift coordinator or charge therapist for guidance).
Education Respiratory Therapy Student, has been created to identify personnel granted provisional license by the State of Oklahoma to provide respiratory care services but have not completed the education process to become credentialed as a Certified Respiratory Therapist or Registered Therapist by the National Board for Respiratory Care Experience Respiratory Therapy Student must be in the last semester of a Respiratory Therapist Program and approved for Provisional License by the State of Oklahoma to be eligible for employment at NRH Licensure/Certification Must have authorization to practice by letter, provisional or full license as a Respiratory Care Practitioner from the Oklahoma State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision RRT status must be achieved within one year from date of provisional license received Basic Life Support (BLS) training is prior to providing patient care Current Basic Life Support (BLS) is required to be maintained thru re-training for duration of employment Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) training is required within 6 months of hire for Respiratory NICU and to be maintained thru duration of employment ACLS or PALS is required to be maintained thru re-training for duration of employment
