The Respiratory Care Practitioner provides basic and advanced respiratory care services, acting as a first responder in emergencies to maintain airways and perform life-saving measures like resuscitation and ventilatory stabilization. They are responsible for integrating diagnostic data to create care plans, performing pulmonary mechanics, operating mechanical ventilators, and interpreting monitoring data such as arterial blood gases.
Candidates must have completed an accredited Respiratory Therapy program and hold current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credentials, along with a current California RCP license and CPR/BLS certification. A minimum of one year of acute care experience is preferred, and advanced certifications like ACLS, PALS, and NRP must be obtained prior to hire.

The Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) safely provides basic and advanced respiratory care services throughout the hospital, according to established policies, procedures and protocols.
Education: ● Completion of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program
● Registered Respiratory Therapist credential
● BS in Respiratory Therapy preferred
Experience: ● Minimum one year experience in acute care as a Respiratory Care Practitioner preferred
Certifications/Licensure: ● Current RRT by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC)
● Current California RCP license
● Current CPR/BLS certification by the American Heart Association (BLS for the Healthcare Provider) or ability to obtain prior to start date
● Current ACLS, PALS, and NRP certification prior to hire or must enroll and complete the first available Barton University courses
● S.T.A.B.L.E. preferred
● NPS and/or ACCS preferred

1. Provides consistently exceptional care at all times.
2. RCP’s are one of the first responders in all emergency situations in order to maintain the patient's airway while performing high level life saving measures.
3. Emergent resuscitation, code blue, code-C-birth, rapid response team, and ventilatory stabilization.
4. Integrates patient diagnostic data, response to therapy, and the physiologic profile to create a plan of care that is sound and consistent in collaboration with the multidisciplinary care team.
5. Performs pulmonary mechanics on all eligible ventilated patients on a daily basis.
6. Maintains proficiency on all aspects of operation of the mechanical ventilators used in the department.
7. Collects specimens, performs basic procedures and assists in complex diagnostic procedures such as bedside pulmonary function tests and therapeutic bronchoscopies.
8. Establishes and maintains basic and complex forms of mechanical ventilation which includes NPPV, CPAP, in-house transport of the ventilated patient.
9. Collects appropriate data and presents patient information at medical rounds. Discussing treatment options ie: ventilator care plan as it pertains to the patient and communicates this plan to physician and/or appropriate members of the patient care team.
10. Interprets diagnostic and monitoring data with a high degree of competence ie: arterial blood gas sampling.
11. Applies new techniques and procedures with high proficiency within days of training/orientation on new procedures, processes, and equipment.
12. Maintain and possess basic and advanced certifications for all patients, ages ranging from the neonate to the adult.
13. Required to remain proficient in neonatal intubations.
14. Assumes responsibility for self-development through continuing education.
15. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested in a professional manner by the multidisciplinary team.
