The Cytotechnologist microscopically examines all cytology cases, identifies and marks appropriate cells, and renders the correct diagnosis for each case. This role makes final diagnoses on negative gynecologic samples and preliminary diagnoses on abnormal gynecologic and all non-gynecologic cases.
Required qualifications include a Bachelor's Degree in Health Science (Cytotechnology Track) and obtaining certification as a Cytotechnologist by the American Society for Clinical Pathology within six months of employment. Preferred education includes a Master's Degree, and preferred experience is one year of clinical work as a Cytotechnologist.
