The Research Associate provides operational support to the laboratory, performing research experiments focused on microbiota-metabolite-immune system crosstalk in the intestines using advanced techniques like flow cytometry, sequencing, and metabolomics. Responsibilities scale with rank, ranging from performing basic experiments and maintaining records to independently designing complex experiments, managing lab operations, and contributing to grant and manuscript writing.
Requirements summary
Required qualifications start with a Bachelor's degree in Biological or Natural Science or equivalent experience, along with basic lab safety knowledge and data analysis ability. Higher levels (RA II-IV) require increasing amounts of relevant research experience, ranging from 18 months for RA II up to 5+ years for RA IV with a Bachelor's degree.
Under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI) or designee, the Research Associate provides operational support to the laboratory. The Research Associate will perform research experiments as defined by the PI. The Galván Peña lab studies how the microbiota-metabolite-immune system crosstalk in the intestines impacts the rest of the organism. We use photoconvertible mouse models combined with flow cytometry, sequencing and metabolomics techniques to understand the molecular details of gut-to-systems communications. Our studies are both within the context of health as well as metabolic and inflammatory diseases. Candidates of all backgrounds encouraged to apply. This is an open-rank posting (there are 4 levels of Research Associate) - candidates will be hired into the level commensurate with their experience.
