The primary purpose involves planning, organizing, developing, and directing the facility’s Occupational Therapy Services to maintain the highest degree of quality care according to all applicable standards and regulations. Responsibilities include performing evaluations, creating care plans with goals, and communicating patient progress effectively with COTAs, DOR, therapy, and nursing staff.
Candidates must possess a current and valid Occupational Therapy license and CPR certification, and must pass a pre-employment background check; one year of experience in a skilled nursing facility is preferred. Additional requirements include the ability to read, write, speak, and understand English, make independent decisions, and maintain strict HIPAA compliance.

Perform Occupational Therapy evaluations, complete care plans, establish goals, and communicate frequently with COTAs who will assist in implementing these care plans and goals. Effectively communicate with the DOR, therapy staff, and nursing staff regarding patient progress, barriers, and treatment plans. Verify patient information and appropriately chart, to include therapy notes, treatment times, and labor hours. Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents. Must be able to relate information concerning a resident’s condition. Must be knowledgeable of HIPAA compliance and requirements, and have the ability to maintain highly confidential information. Must not pose a direct threat to the health and safety of other individuals in the workplace.
