The clinician conducts intake assessments and provides counseling for clients with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders. They also develop and implement therapeutic treatment plans and maintain client records.
Candidates must have a relevant license in counseling and a master's degree in behavioral sciences, along with two years of experience in counseling preferred. Knowledge of counseling principles, community resources, and client confidentiality laws is essential.
Excellent communication skills and customer service representation. Knowledge of principles and techniques of counseling. Knowledge of American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) requirements and core principles. Ability to gather, analyze and evaluate information pertinent to the care of clients. Ability to meet Agency and regulatory body standards of documentation. Knowledge of the physical, psychological, social and economic effects of substance abuse, homelessness, medical and mental health issues. Knowledge of community resources. Considerable knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations regarding client confidentiality. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships. Ability to project a professional image. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Licensed alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), License Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Masters/Clinical Social Worker (LMSW/LCSW). Master’s degree in the behavioral sciences and two (2) years experience in counseling preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience. QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS: Must pass /CT DOC background check and DOC Orientation process Valid CT Driver’s License MATS certified and/or CAC and SCCD preferred Knowledge of principles and techniques of counseling/Mental health understanding and sensitivity. Knowledge of the physical, psychological, social, and economic effects of substance abuse Knowledge of community resources Considerable knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations regarding client confidentiality Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships Excellent communication skills Ability to project a professional image Must work collaboratively and professionally with all DOC staff: DOC Addictions Counselors, Custody Officers, DOC Wardens, and Department Wardens. An understanding of and ability to provide appropriate care for co-occurring d/o individuals EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in the Behavioral Sciences or 2 years’ experience in counseling preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
