Overview Job Role Summary The Medical Director oversees all aspects of clinical patient care and serves as the primary clinical representative for their assigned department.
The Medical Director provides strategic, medical, and operational leadership to ensure that services delivered meet preeminent standards for quality, efficiency, and service.
This role performs assigned duties with high ethical standards while acting in the best interest of patients, Eskenazi Health and Eskenazi Medical Group.
The Medical Director collaborates with all levels of leadership across Eskenazi Health, Eskenazi Medical Group, provider training programs, and other internal/external stakeholders.
This role has protected administrative time that is subject to ongoing review and adjustments by Eskenazi Medical Group senior leadership.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Directs the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based clinical care, including the development of protocols/policies, standard procedures, and other patient care related activities.
Monitors clinical, operational and financial data to identify opportunities and implement improvements in access, quality, financial performance and efficiency.
Creates and sustains a positive work culture.
Provides leadership for the selection, onboarding, ongoing development, advancement, and optimization of provider workforce.
Functions in a matrix leadership structure and partners with department leadership to share accountability for site operations, clinical performance, staffing, and workflows.
Ensures compliance with all applicable policies, laws, credentialing/privileging standards and regulatory requirements (i.e. Eskenazi Health Medical Staff bylaws, Joint Commission standards).
Sets performance standards, mentors, completes and delivers annual performance reviews, and takes corrective actions as needed for providers and other staff as requested.
Collaborates with the administrative leadership team on business issues including financial performance, management information systems, and budgeting.
Partners with Eskenazi Health quality and risk management leadership to establish and maintain high-functioning quality and patient safety goals, teams and processes.
Addresses emergency patient care issues.
Collaborates, communicates, and coordinates with all physicians and healthcare personnel caring for patients, as necessary.
Lead department initiatives to maintain and enhance partnerships with provider training programs including supporting learners in their respective clinical environments.
Completes required monthly Medical Director Log. Associated Job Duties
May hold the Eskenazi Health Service Chief title of respective department.
May serve as a voting member of Medical Executive Committee (MEC).
Works closely with Medical Staff Affairs on provider privileging, OPPE requirements, and peer review as needed for the respective department.
Expected to maintain a .6 clinical FTE or above concurrent with this administrative role.
Participates in internal and external committees, task forces, commissions, agencies, and public relations efforts.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications, Training, and Experience Licensed healthcare provider credentialed prior to hire date to practice in the State of Indiana, in accordance with applicable Indiana Medical Licensing Board requirements. Board Eligible or Board Certified in provider’s specialty. Insurability (malpractice). Current DEA, CSR Registration. Current BLS/ACLS or PALS as applicable. Must be able to meet and maintain current Eskenazi Health Medical Staff credentialing and privileging requirements as applicable. Prior leadership experience preferred.
