Our purpose is to provide accurate testing results, expeditiously, to allow medical professionals the data needed to care for their patients. This position performs routine laboratory tasks that support Clinical Laboratory Scientists, including tasks related to laboratory processing of blood specimens and handling of laboratory reagents and supplies.
Responsibilities
Receive, centrifuge, and organize all laboratory specimens for the laboratory and send all specimens and tubes to the donor testing lab.
Ensure that laboratory specimens and accompanying testing forms are labeled properly and acceptable for testing; investigate related sample specimen or paperwork problems.
Reconcile samples sent and received in laboratory with client manifests.
Monitor saved sample specimen inventory and rotate samples according to retention policies.
Separate and mail (or fax) all laboratory report forms to the appropriate personnel according to established guidelines.
Maintain, monitor, and restock inventory or laboratory supplies and order replacements as needed.
Prepare and label biohazard containers for disposal.
Prepare and label client boxes for return shipment.

Record and review temperatures on designated refrigerators and freezers or on temperature monitoring system daily and confirm that temperature remains within acceptable limits. Notify a Clinical Laboratory Scientist or supervisor of any deviations immediately.
Transport donor specimens, as needed.
Perform cleaning and maintenance of laboratory equipment, load automated instruments for specimen processing.
Assist Clinical Laboratory Scientists with lab supply cleaning, day-to-day duties, and maintenance.
Assist customer service staff with client testing requests.
Assist with storage or retrieval from freezers or refrigerators.
Perform miscellaneous clerical duties, as needed.
Work shifts may include weekends, holidays, evenings, and nights.
Must have consistent and reliable transportation.
Attendance is a requirement for this position.
Required qualifications
Position requires a minimum of a HS Diploma or equivalent.
Basic computer skills and experience with computer programs such as MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
Ability to maintain records in accordance with procedure and regulations.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of records as required by state and federal laws and regulations.
Other Relevant Information
Will be required to comply with governmental regulations and strictly observe privacy and security related policies, procedures and practices to preserve the integrity and confidentiality of medical and other sensitive information pertaining to donors, patients, research subjects, and staff. Will be required to enter areas where other individuals work with human blood; potential may exist for unanticipated exposure to bloodborne pathogens by splash or spill.
